Jeff Strom is the Head Chef of Agate Alley Bistro.

Chef Jeff, as we like to call him (among other things), began his kitchen career in Spokane Washington at the wee age of fifteen washing dishes in a popular classic Italian joint. After realizing that the kitchen was where he was meant to be, Jeff started the meteoric climb out of the dish pit to the dizzying heights of an accomplished and talented head chef. Jeff cut his teeth (and a few fingers) at several of Spokane's finer restaurants, including Beverly's and Rock City Grill.

After quickly rising to sous chef status, Jeff moved to Eugene eight years ago and took a position at Marche. Following Marche, Jeff went to work for Guckenheimer, one of the nation's largest food contractors and again worked his way up to sous chef before deciding that culinary school was calling.

Jeff attended Western Culinary Institute where he excelled in his studies, earning a 4.0, high honors, and became class valectditorian. His talent and hard work paid off and earned him an internship in Beverly Hills at the Playboy mansion. At Playboy, Jeff again excelled and was offered full time employment.

After leaving Playboy with an offer to return anytime, Chef Jeff moved back to Eugene to be with his family, his wife, Angela, and their Pomeranian, Xyola. Jeff served as head chef for the flagship Market of Choice store at WoodfieldStation while moonlighting as night banquet chef for the Eugene Country Club. Agate Alley came calling, though, which Jeff opened with owner Dug Beaird in April of 2008.

Chef Jeff has an unwavering passion for food, a creative talent for marrying flavors and a remarkable eye for detail (not to mention a pseudo-neurotic need to keep his kitchen spotless). His menu perfectly blends classic northwest fare with Asian and Latin nuances, making Agate Alley a truly original staple in the Eugene restaurant scene. His creations are as diverse as our city and region and will keep you coming back to find out just what he's up to next back there in the kitchen.
